US President Donald Trump has urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to work toward a negotiated end to the war in Ukraine, according to the Kremlin. Yuri Ushakov, a Kremlin foreign policy adviser, said the proposal was made during a 90-minute phone conversation between the two leaders. According to a Reuters report published on Sunday, Trump called for efforts to achieve a “swift end to the war” and to find practical solutions to resolve the ongoing conflict. During the call, Putin reportedly briefed Trump on developments on the battlefield, saying Russian forces were “advancing confidently” and were taking control of territories “one after another.” Hours before speaking with Putin, Trump also held a separate phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, where the two leaders discussed prospects for ending the war. Following the call, Zelenskyy said there was “a real opportunity” to bring the conflict to an end, adding that “America’s determination will be of vital importance.” Trump’s renewed diplomatic efforts come as Ukraine has intensified its attacks on Russian territory in recent months. According to reports, many of those strikes have been carried out using one-way attack drones.
