U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning regarding Iran, stating that a deadline he previously set is approaching and that “an entire civilization could be destroyed tonight and may never return,” describing the unfolding developments as potentially one of the most significant moments in world history. Speaking on Tuesday, April 7, Trump suggested that sweeping changes in Iran’s leadership, along with the emergence of “different and more intelligent minds,” could lead to what he described as a “revolutionary and extraordinary” outcome. “We will know tonight,” he said. “One of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the world—47 years of extortion, corruption, and death—may finally come to an end. God bless the great people of Iran.” Meanwhile, a senior Iranian source told Reuters that Tehran has rejected a proposal for a temporary ceasefire conveyed through intermediaries. Iranian officials have stressed that any sustainable peace negotiations could only begin after the cessation of U.S. and Israeli attacks, along with guarantees against their resumption and compensation for damages. The source further stated that the United States is attempting to force Iran into submission through pressure. Iran has also made clear that it will not reopen the Strait of Hormuz based on what it considers unreliable promises, but indicated it may adopt a more flexible approach if Washington demonstrates similar willingness. The source warned that if the situation spirals out of control, Iran’s allies could move to close the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a critical global shipping route.
