Yemen’s Foreign Minister Afrah al-Zouba has rejected remarks by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi about Tehran’s proposed mediation in Yemen, saying Iran cannot present itself as a mediator while providing military support to the Houthi movement.
Ms al-Zouba said Iran’s claims of mediation were an attempt to conceal its responsibility for supporting the Houthis’ takeover. She accused Tehran of prolonging the conflict by providing the group with funding, weapons and military equipment.
She called on Iran to abandon what she described as plots against Yemen and stop supplying the Houthis with weapons, missiles and drones, rather than offering to mediate in the conflict.
