Richard Bennett, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on human rights in Afghanistan, has described the ban on women working with UN agencies in Afghanistan as an “unjustifiable attack.” He said the restriction has weakened life-saving assistance and must be lifted immediately. A group of UN experts warned that the measure makes women and girls the primary victims and puts humanitarian operations and life-saving services at serious risk. They called on institutions and member states to apply diplomatic pressure to have the ban removed. The experts emphasized that supporting Afghan women is essential for maintaining humanitarian efforts and protecting the future of the country.
