Lina Rozbeh, a journalist and civil society activist, has accused the Taliban of subjecting Pashtuns in Afghanistan to what she described as unprecedented oppression.
In a statement, she alleged that educated Pashtuns, tribal elders, civil society activists, poets, writers, former military personnel, journalists, artists and athletes had been targeted and killed by the Taliban in targeted attacks across several provinces.
Rozbeh also accused the Taliban of turning Pashtun-populated areas into poppy-growing regions and bases for international militant groups. She said young people and teenagers from these communities were being drawn into the group’s militant activities.
She described the Taliban’s treatment of Pashtuns as without precedent in Afghanistan’s history. Her remarks reflect her allegations about the group’s conduct, which have not been independently verified in this report.
