WASHINGTON: Donald Trump, the President of the United States, warned that if Iran seeks to threaten his life, the U.S. will respond with a “devastating” attack that could lead to the destruction of Iran. He stated, “I have issued orders that in the case of any threat, the entire country will be targeted.” In recent weeks, following widespread protests in Iran that have resulted in the deaths of at least hundreds, Trump has alluded to military options against Iran. In Tehran, Iran’s leader Ali Khamenei labeled Trump a “criminal” for inciting the deadly protests and stated that he must be punished. Trump had earlier mentioned that it is time to seek new leadership in Iran. Additionally, a spokesperson for the Iranian Armed Forces warned that any attack on the country’s leader will meet with a severe response and that “there will be no safe haven for the enemy.” Tensions between Iran and the U.S. continue amid the crackdown on protests and mutual threats, with the Iranian National Security Commission declaring that any attack on the country’s leader would signal the beginning of a “holy jihad or war.”
