Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif says the province faces greater security threats from neighbouring provinces within Pakistan than from neighbouring countries.
Speaking at an event in Lahore on Saturday, she said she hoped people in Punjab could sleep safely and without fear.
Nawaz said terrorist attacks were being carried out from neighbouring areas, adding that threats from neighbouring countries were comparatively limited.
Punjab borders Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan to the north and west, Sindh to the south, and India to the east.
Her comments come as Pakistan’s government accuses India and the Taliban of contributing to insecurity, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Taliban rejects the allegations and says insecurity in Pakistan is rooted in the country’s internal problems.
