Maulana Fazlur Rehman, leader of Pakistan’s Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), has condemned the declaration of emergency rule and the imposition of governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, describing the move as unconstitutional.

“Today is the darkest day in the history of democracy,” he said, adding that his party would not accept such unconstitutional measures under any circumstances.

Rehman described the decision as an attack on democracy and people’s rights. He said his party would challenge the move in court and take action both inside and outside parliament.

He added that JUI-F would use all legal and democratic means to defend the constitution, human rights and the democratic rights of the people, and would intensify its struggle to achieve its objectives.
