An addiction treatment center in Kabul was struck by an airstrike last night, reportedly killing at least 400 people and injuring 250 others, according to the Taliban. The center, targeted around 9 p.m., was almost completely destroyed, and approximately 2,000 patients were reportedly undergoing treatment there. India’s Ministry of External Affairs condemned the attack as “brutal and unjustifiable,” noting that it claimed the lives of numerous civilians and had no legitimate military target. India called for accountability for those responsible. Nasir Ahmad Faiq has called for a transparent and independent investigation into the strike, while Human Rights Watch emphasized that civilian facilities must never be targeted. Pakistan claimed that it had targeted military sites and militant facilities in Kabul and Nangarhar, but the Taliban has not responded to this assertion. Prominent figures including Abdullah Abdullah and Richard Bennett also condemned the attack, urging restraint, de-escalation, and adherence to international law in the protection of civilians.
