The US Department of State has announced that it is closing its consulate in Peshawar in phases, citing security concerns and the safety of its diplomats. The department said that following the closure of the consulate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, diplomatic responsibilities will be transferred to Islamabad. It stressed that the decision is aimed at ensuring the security of diplomatic personnel and improving resource management. Political analysts, pointing to the current situation in Peshawar, have said that if security conditions do not improve, other countries may take similar steps. It is worth noting that security conditions in various parts of Pakistan have recently deteriorated, raising concerns among local residents.
