Pakistani exporters are facing heavy financial losses, stranded cargo and sharply rising transport costs as trade with Afghanistan remains suspended. Business groups say the disruption has also affected Pakistan’s access to markets in Afghanistan and Central Asia.

According to a report by CNA, trade between the two countries was halted in October 2025 following clashes that left several people dead. Pakistani trade groups estimate that more than $2.5bn worth of trade has been lost since the suspension began.

Islamabad alleges that militants based in Afghanistan are carrying out attacks inside Pakistan. The Taliban authorities in Afghanistan have denied the allegations.
