The death toll in Iran has reached 1,255 after nine days of joint strikes by the United States and Israel, according to Iranian health authorities. Ali Jafarian, Iran’s deputy health minister, told Al Jazeera in an interview that more than 1,255 people have been killed and over 12,000 others injured during the past nine days. According to the latest details, the victims range in age from eight months to 88 years old. Among those killed were 200 women and 168 children. Jafarian said that 168 of the victims were killed in an attack on a girls’ school in Minab. The medical sector has also suffered significant losses. A total of 55 healthcare workers have been injured and 11 killed, including four doctors, two nurses and three other medical staff. The deputy health minister stressed that many of the injured remain in critical condition and warned that the death toll could rise as search and rescue operations continue. The conflict began on February 28 and has now entered its ninth day, with no clear signs of de-escalation or serious efforts toward a ceasefire.
