Local sources in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province say Lailma, the wife of local singer Abdul Salam Maftoon, was killed on Thursday morning in Ishkashim district. According to the sources, Lailma was shot by armed individuals while she was on her way from her home to her workplace in the local market of Ishkashim. She died as a result of the gunfire. Some media outlets had earlier reported that she was killed by unidentified armed men. Lailma managed a women-only restaurant in the local market of Ishkashim and was reportedly attacked while traveling to work. Sources added that one of Lailma’s children was accompanying her at the time of the incident.
