KABUL: Ali Larijani, the Secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, has warned that U.S. interference in Iran’s internal matters could lead to widespread instability in the region and harm American interests. Larijani wrote on his official account on X, on Friday, that following the positions of Israeli officials and Donald Trump, “the backdrop of the incident has become clear.” He emphasized the distinction between “protesting merchants” and “destructive agents,” stating: “Trump should understand that U.S. interference in this internal issue would equate to chaos throughout the region and harm U.S. interests.” The Secretary also mentioned that the American public should know that Trump has initiated this adventure and warned, “They should watch out for their soldiers.” The reactions followed Trump’s support for the protests in Iran, where he claimed that “peaceful protesters” were being shot at. Trump wrote on his Truth Social account that if such actions were taken, the United States would take measures to “rescue” the protesters, adding: “We are ready to act.” Additionally, Ali Shamkhani, an advisor to the Iranian leader, responded to these remarks by stating that the Iranian people are well aware of the experience of “rescuing” Americans from Iraq, Afghanistan, and Gaza. He wrote on his X page, “Any interventionist hand that approaches Iran’s security under false pretenses will be cut off before reaching its goal. Iran’s national security is a red line, not a subject for adventurous tweets.” The comments come amid reports of rising fatalities from recent clashes between protesters and security forces in Iran, with the death toll reaching six on Thursday. According to AFP, this marks the first casualties since the onset of a new wave of protests against rising prices, severe inflation, and a decrease in purchasing power in the country.
