KABUL: NASA has announced the discovery of a rock on Mars, identified by the Perseverance rover, located in the Jezero Crater. This rock, named “Chiawa Falls,” is estimated to be about 3.5 billion years old and is composed of sedimentary materials. Inside the rock, scientists have found minerals that are typically formed by bacterial activity on Earth, such as vivianite and greigite. Additionally, the presence of organic elements like carbon, phosphorus, sulfur, and iron has been confirmed. These findings suggest that the area may have once provided a suitable environment for microbial life. However, scientists emphasize that this is not definitive proof, as these minerals could also have formed through inorganic chemical processes. To clarify this matter, it is necessary to bring these samples back to Earth for analysis in advanced laboratories. If confirmed, this could represent the strongest evidence of ancient life on Mars to date.
