Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has said it welcomes efforts by the United States and other friendly countries to facilitate dialogue between Islamabad and Kabul.
According to Pakistani media reports on 2 November, the ministry’s spokesperson said any progress in relations between the two countries must be accompanied by practical and verifiable action by the Taliban government against armed groups.
Islamabad alleges that groups such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) operate from Afghan territory. Kabul has rejected the allegations.
The statement follows remarks by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who said Washington had heard Pakistan’s concerns over cross-border attacks and was prepared to play a constructive role in easing tensions between the two countries.
