Ukraine and Russia have reported cyberattacks targeting mobile applications used to issue emergency alerts, resulting in false warning messages being sent to members of the public.

The Associated Press reported that users in Ukraine received messages on Sunday warning of nuclear threats, hazardous chemicals and possible street clashes in areas around Kyiv.

Ukraine’s Air Force said its air raid alert application had probably been compromised in a cyberattack and urged residents to rely on official information.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations also reported a large-scale cyberattack targeting its mobile application, saying false information had been distributed through the platform.

Ukrainian officials stressed that the incident had not affected the country’s military or operational air force systems.

The reported attacks come as the war between Russia and Ukraine continues, raising concerns about the growing threat of cyberattacks against critical infrastructure in both countries.
