US President Donald Trump has claimed he could have won the war in Afghanistan within three weeks.
Speaking at an election rally in Dubuque, Iowa, Trump criticised former US presidents over the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people in the wars in Afghanistan and Vietnam.
“We don’t fight to win wars, we fight for a tie. I don’t know what we’re doing,” he said.
Trump also claimed he could have brought the Vietnam War to an end within a week.
His remarks come after nearly 20 years of US military involvement in Afghanistan, which ended with the withdrawal of American forces in 2021.
Trump has repeatedly criticised his predecessor, Joe Biden, over the withdrawal, describing it as a humiliating failure.
