US President Donald Trump says the Houthi movement has contacted Washington and does not want to enter into a conflict with the United States.
Speaking during his visit to Ireland,Trump said the Houthis had asked the US not to become involved and had indicated that they did not want American forces to attack them.
His comments come amid growing tensions involving the Houthis and Saudi Arabia, with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reportedly seeking US support for military action against the group.
Trump said the Houthis had been in communication with Washington and preferred that the US stay out of the conflict.
He added that the group was allowing more ships to pass through the region, while warning that there was one country with which the Houthis had particularly difficult relations.
“We will sort that out,” Trump said.
