US President Donald Trump has described Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as a “good friend”, saying he expects relations between the two countries to proceed well.
Speaking during his visit to Ireland, Trump was asked about reports that the Saudi crown prince had sought US assistance in the conflict with the Houthi movement.
Trump also said Iran was probably responsible for an attack on Saudi Arabia’s major East-West oil pipeline.
Asked about the reported Iranian involvement, he said: “Probably.”
The US president said the Houthis had been in contact with Washington and did not want the US to become directly involved in the conflict.
According to Trump, the Houthis notify the US of their actions and prefer to allow more ships to pass through the region.
“There is only one country they are not very fond of, and we will sort that out,” he said.
