IRGC Claims Two Oil Tankers Targeted Near Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that it targeted and disabled two oil tankers travelling through the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz. In a statement, the IRGC said the two vessels were “non-compliant oil tankers” that had attempted to enter and exit through what it described as an unsafe and high-risk route under “pressure and encouragement from the US military”. The IRGC claimed that the vessels were hit and forced to stop moving after the attack, but did not provide further details about the ships, their operators, or the extent of the damage. The group also warned that as long as what it called “US actions” in the region continued, the Strait of Hormuz would not be considered secure for the transit of chemical fertilisers, oil, or gas. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said it had received a report of a fire on board a vessel near the northern coast of Oman.
