US President Donald Trump has said he rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume nuclear talks.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran had submitted a seven-day proposal through Qatar. Under the plan, the US would end its naval blockade of Iranian ports, lift oil sanctions and release about $12bn in frozen Iranian assets.
In return, Iran said it would reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days and resume nuclear negotiations with Washington.
Trump said: “I rejected their proposal,” adding that Iran was seeking to reopen the strait because of its economic difficulties.
