TikTok has agreed to introduce new restrictions on teenagers’ use of the platform in Alabama, following a settlement with the US state.
Under the agreement, teenagers’ use of TikTok will be limited to two hours a day, while access will be blocked between midnight and 06:00.
The company will also strengthen age-verification measures, disable notifications during school hours and restrict teenagers’ use of beauty filters.
The agreement follows a lawsuit by Alabama authorities over concerns about TikTok’s impact on children and teenagers. TikTok will also pay at least $100m to the state.
