The German government has offered financial and other assistance to Afghans waiting to be admitted to Germany, in return for withdrawing from the admission process.
The government says the assistance is intended for those who return to Afghanistan or travel to a third country. According to reports, single men could receive up to €3,000, while larger families could be offered up to €16,000 in a one-off payment.
The package also includes accommodation, food, healthcare and psychological support for three months.
Accepting the offer means withdrawing from the German admission process, with no possibility of rejoining it later. Those who reject the offer or fail to respond within the deadline could also lose Germany’s current support for them in Pakistan.
According to Germany’s parliament, 167 people had accepted similar offers by the end of 2025, while 358 had rejected them and cases involving a further 137 people were still pending.
