Shukria Barakzai, a former member of Afghanistan’s parliament, has said that Ghazi Amanullah Khan is her hero, rather than Ahmad Shah Massoud.
In an interview, Ms Barakzai said that while some people regard Mullah Omar and others Ahmad Shah Massoud as heroes, she considers Ghazi Amanullah Khan her hero.
She also said she would have opposed Ahmad Massoud, the son of Ahmad Shah Massoud, if he had been trained in Pakistan as a militant commander and returned to Afghanistan with the support of Pakistan’s intelligence services.
Barakzai made the remarks in August 2024. They have resurfaced as Afghanistan marks the 25th anniversary of Ahmad Shah Massoud’s death.
