Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni has arrived in Islamabad at the head of an official delegation, Pakistan’s Interior Ministry has said. According to the ministry, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi welcomed his Iranian counterpart upon arrival. During the visit, Eskandar Momeni is expected to hold talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. The discussions are expected to focus on bilateral relations, security cooperation and regional developments. Iranian media have reported that the main purpose of the visit is to discuss bilateral ties and ways to expand cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad. Meanwhile, some Pakistani journalists have claimed that Eskandar Momeni is carrying a message from Iran’s leadership concerning the escalating tensions with the United States, the Strait of Hormuz, tensions between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia, and what Tehran describes as a breach of understandings involving Pakistan. These claims have not been officially confirmed by either the Iranian or Pakistani governments. Pakistan, which has sought to facilitate dialogue between Iran and the United States in recent months, has said it will continue its diplomatic efforts despite the renewed hostilities between the two sides.
