A US official has told Al Arabiya that President Donald Trump gave Iran an opportunity to make what he described as the “right decisions” before the conflict escalated, but said Tehran instead made “the wrong decisions”. Speaking on condition of anonymity, the official said on Saturday that Iran is no longer capable of closing the Strait of Hormuz and that Washington is now “punishing Iran for those decisions”. The official also said the United States is deploying additional military assets to the region to provide President Trump with the option of launching a larger military operation if necessary. He further claimed that Iran would be unable to rebuild its economy and military industries for years and said the country’s government is more vulnerable than ever to “an internal revolution and an insurgent movement”. Meanwhile, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces carried out a seventh consecutive day of strikes against targets in Iran overnight.
