The United States has closed its consulate in Peshawar, with future diplomatic matters related to Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province to be managed by a dedicated section at the US Embassy in Islamabad. In a statement issued on Friday, the US Consulate in Peshawar said that diplomatic affairs concerning Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would now be handled by the embassy’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Affairs Office in Islamabad. The consulate did not provide further details on the reasons behind the decision, but said the United States would continue to engage with communities and stakeholders in the province through its embassy in Islamabad.
