Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai has expressed concern over the growing risk of malnutrition among children in Afghanistan, citing reports from international organisations, including UNICEF. Karzai said around 3.7 million children under the age of five are facing an increasing threat of malnutrition and called for serious and comprehensive action from responsible authorities and international organisations to protect children’s health. He said providing access to education for all children and young people, including both girls and boys, is essential to address Afghanistan’s long-term challenges. According to Karzai, expanding education and public awareness can help develop skilled human resources, reduce the impact of illiteracy, improve the country’s economy and decrease reliance on foreign aid.
