KABUL: Sara Adams, a former officer of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), in reaction to the removal of women’s images from Electronic Identification Cards (e-ID) by the Taliban posted photos of several Taliban officials’ wives on social media. According to news sources, on Sunday, she published images of the wives of at least five Taliban members from their diplomatic passports, warning that if this restriction continues, she will release more photos. Adams shared these images on her X account, captioning them “Taliban Housewife Diplomats.” The wives of these officials are identified as diplomats in countries such as Russia, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, and Iran. This action follows a verbal directive from Hibatullah Akhundzada, the Taliban leader, ordering that women’s images not be included in identification documents. Although the Taliban’s statistics office later announced that including women’s photos is optional, Adams emphasized that “Taliban women travel with their diplomatic photos, while Afghan girls are deprived of having their pictures in their IDs.” The Taliban continues to impose strict restrictions and suppress women’s rights.
