Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, has reaffirmed that Tehran is not at peace with the United States and will not recognise Israel, while saying that implementing an understanding between Tehran and Washington would be “difficult but achievable.” Speaking during a meeting with Mohammad Darwish, head of Hamas’ Political Bureau Leadership Council, Qalibaf said diplomacy and negotiations should help resolve the military confrontation while preserving and consolidating the achievements of Iran’s regional allies. He said Iran had insisted during the negotiations on safeguarding the territorial integrity of countries in the region and ending military operations against its allied groups, adding that these provisions had been incorporated into the text of the proposed understanding. Qalibaf also said Iran would continue supporting “Muslims and the Axis of Resistance,” adding: “If necessary, we will provide missiles, and if political pressure is required, we will exert it through negotiations.” His remarks come as Iranian and US officials continue talks in Switzerland over the implementation of a post-war understanding, with both sides acknowledging that significant challenges remain before any agreement can be fully carried out.
