Hassan Fadlallah, Hezbollah’s representative in the Lebanese parliament, has rejected the agreement signed between Israel and Lebanon in Washington, saying it undermines Lebanon’s interests. In a statement, Fadlallah said: “The course adopted by Lebanese officials amounts to unilateral and unjustified concessions that have only weakened the country and serve the interests of the Israeli enemy.” He also warned that the agreement could lead to “dangerous internal divisions” in Lebanon. Under the U.S.-proposed plan, which serves as the framework for the agreement between Lebanon and Israel, Israeli forces would gradually hand over control of various areas to the Lebanese army. In return, the Lebanese army would be tasked with preventing armed Hezbollah fighters from entering those areas. During the negotiations, Lebanon had sought a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from the country’s southern regions.
