The European Union has said that the empowerment of women and girls remains a central pillar of its essential assistance to the people of Afghanistan. In a statement issued on Saturday, the European Union Delegation to Afghanistan said it is implementing programmes in Badakhshan province in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and two partner organisations to strengthen women’s skills, enhance their capacities, and improve their access to economic opportunities. The European Union, currently the largest donor of humanitarian programmes in Afghanistan, has focused part of its activities on supporting women and promoting community-based businesses. According to the EU, these initiatives aim to strengthen and expand small businesses managed by women, creating greater opportunities for their participation in economic activities. The bloc said that supporting women and providing them with economic opportunities can play an important role in promoting sustainable development and improving living conditions for Afghan citizens.
