Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters said in a statement that the Strait of Hormuz will be closed to vessels. In the statement, the headquarters cited what it described as the United States’ “clear breach of commitments and agreements” in implementing the first clause of the war-ending memorandum, Israel’s “continuous violations of the ceasefire” in southern Lebanon, and the “killing and displacement of large numbers of Lebanese civilians” as reasons for the decision. Under the first clause of the memorandum between Iran and the United States, the parties had committed to declaring and implementing an immediate and permanent end to military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon. Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters also cited the “failure of Israeli forces to withdraw from southern Lebanon” as another factor behind the decision and said that closing the Strait of Hormuz would constitute “the first step in responding to the enemy’s breach of commitments.”
