Axios, citing a knowledgeable source, has reported that Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is expected to travel to Switzerland on Saturday, although the plan has not yet been finalized and may still change. According to the report, the first round of talks on a potential agreement between Iran and the United States is expected to take place in the Swiss region of Bürgenstock, but the exact timing of the discussions has not yet been announced. Axios previously reported that Steve Witkoff, the US Special Envoy, is en route to Switzerland, while Jared Kushner, another representative of the US administration, is also present in the country. The outlet, citing a source in one of the mediator countries, said Araghchi told several regional foreign ministers on Friday that the ceasefire in Lebanon is a “decisive” issue for Tehran in its negotiations with Washington. Another source from mediator countries told Axios that Iranian officials have stressed that, before Araghchi travels to Switzerland, they want assurances that the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah is stabilized. Meanwhile, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, one of the main mediators between Tehran and Washington, arrived in Switzerland on Friday. US Vice President JD Vance was expected to lead the American delegation, but he postponed his trip late Thursday evening. It remains unclear whether he will travel to Switzerland in the coming days.
