A U.S. federal judge on Friday ruled that certain immigration policies implemented under the Donald Trump administration were illegal, under which applicants from 39 countries were denied decisions on asylum, work permits, green cards and citizenship applications. According to Reuters, Judge John McConnell, chief judge of the U.S. District Court in Providence, Rhode Island, struck down the policies and said the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services had placed thousands of migrants in a state of “legal limbo” through their implementation. He added that the applicants had completed all required legal procedures, but had still waited months without any decision on their cases. The ruling is being described as a significant development for migrants facing prolonged delays in the processing of their applications.
