Iran’s state broadcaster reported on Sunday that six ships were stopped in the Strait of Hormuz over the past 24 hours. According to the report, the vessels were forced to anchor again after receiving repeated warnings from Iran’s armed forces and to accept what the broadcaster described as “maritime order”. The report said Iran’s policy and instructions regarding shipping movements through the strategic waterway had not changed, adding that the Strait of Hormuz remained closed. The announcement comes after reports of two days of talks between Iran and Oman over the possible reopening of the strait. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said that “useful” discussions had taken place between officials from Tehran and Muscat on reopening the waterway, but added that “the Strait of Hormuz remains closed.”
