Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, has said that the United States’ Freedom Project in the Strait of Hormuz is a dead-end project ,adding that recent developments show political crises cannot be resolved through military means. Writing on the social media platform X, he said that while negotiations are progressing with the mediation of Pakistan, both the United States and the United Arab Emirates should avoid further escalation. The remarks come as the United States has announced the launch of an operation known as the Freedom Project to escort commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. According to US Central Command, two US-flagged commercial ships have passed through the route under the protection of American naval destroyers. In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps rejected the claim, saying it had prevented US destroyers from entering the Strait of Hormuz using cruise missiles, rockets and drones. At the same time, Donald Trump warned that any attack on American vessels would be met with a strong response. Meanwhile, US military officials said that as part of the operation, certain threats had been targeted and launched projectiles intercepted. The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil transit routes, has become a sensitive point amid rising tensions between Iran and the United States, increasing concerns over the safety of maritime traffic in the area.
