World leaders are gathering in New York for the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, which begins amid a series of major global conflicts and crises.
The general debate is due to begin on 22 September, with nearly 130 heads of state and government expected to attend in person.
The wars and conflicts in Iran, Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Myanmar are expected to feature prominently in discussions.
Climate change, sustainable development and concerns over the rapid development and governance of artificial intelligence are also among the issues on the agenda.
The gathering comes as the United Nations faces growing international divisions and calls for reforms to the organisation, including changes to the Security Council.
