Hakan Fidan, Turkey’s Foreign Minister, has stated that Israel has become a “direct threat to global security,” warning that escalating tensions in the Middle East carry far-reaching global consequences. Speaking on Friday, April 24, at University of Oxford, Fidan said regional crises are no longer confined to geography and increasingly affect global security, stability, and economic systems. He noted that the world is undergoing a profound structural transformation, emphasizing that countries must take greater responsibility for their own security and strategic policies. Fidan pointed to the conflict involving Iran as an example of how regional crises can disrupt global stability, adding that the war has dealt a significant blow to international security and prosperity. The Turkish foreign minister stressed that Israel’s actions to destabilize the region have extended beyond local boundaries and require a collective response from the international community. He also called for reforms to international institutions and the establishment of a new order in the Middle East, asserting that regional issues should ultimately be resolved by countries within the region.
