UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has called for the reopening of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, warning that its continued closure has caused significant economic damage. In a post on X on Monday, he said the UK had held a joint meeting with more than 40 countries, all supporting the restoration of free navigation through the strategic waterway. Starmer added that the UK and France will co-host a joint meeting this week to advance a coordinated, independent, and multilateral plan aimed at ensuring the safety of global maritime traffic after the conflict. His remarks come amid growing global concerns over disruptions to the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical routes for energy transport and international trade.
