148 Killed in Two Weeks as Natural Disasters Take Rising Toll in Afghanistan

Authorities in Afghanistan say at least 148 people have been killed and 216 others injured as a result of natural disasters over the past two weeks. According to Taliban officials, the incidents included heavy rainfall, flash floods, house collapses, earthquakes, and lightning strikes. The National Disaster Management Authority under the Taliban said that most provinces across the country experienced rainfall and flooding during this period. In the eastern province of Nangarhar Province alone, at least 24 people have been killed and around 33 others injured in just the past two days. The authorities also reported that 1,149 homes have been destroyed, while agricultural land and roads have sustained significant damage. An estimated 7,500 families have been affected. Reports further indicate that in 2025, earthquakes, floods, and drought destroyed around 8,000 homes across Afghanistan.
