Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai has called on the United Nations to formally condemn Pakistan’s attacks on Afghanistan in a letter addressed to António Guterres. In a statement issued on Tuesday (April 7), Karzai said the attacks have resulted in civilian casualties and damage to public infrastructure. He stressed that the United Nations must respond decisively and officially denounce Pakistan’s actions. Karzai further stated that Pakistan’s policy over the past four decades has been based on the instrumental use of militancy and extremism to expand its regional influence. He also urged the United Nations to take practical steps to prevent further attacks. Meanwhile, reports indicate that delegations from Pakistan and the Taliban are holding talks in China aimed at reducing tensions. According to figures released by the Taliban, more than 700 civilians have been killed in Afghanistan since the beginning of the attacks.
