U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday gave Iran a 48-hour deadline to reach an agreement with Washington or reopen the Strait of Hormuz, warning that otherwise the United States would launch an attack, saying, “We will rain hell down on them.” Trump’s message was published on the social media platform Truth Social, where he referred to his previous 10-day ultimatum issued on March 26. At that time, he had demanded that Iran reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which has effectively been closed since the start of the conflict. The deadline was set for Monday, April 6, at 8:00 p.m. Washington time. He had also warned that if the strait is not reopened, Iran’s power plants would be targeted in potential strikes.
