The Ministry of Mining, Industry and Geology of Uzbekistan has announced that the Uzbekistan Foreign Geological Company has started exploration activities in three oil and gas areas in northern Afghanistan. According to the ministry, technical teams have recently identified three blocks in Faryab Province, specifically in the areas of Ahmadabad, Mohammad Jan Field, and Shamar Area. Drilling operations are expected to begin soon. The company plans to conduct initial exploration across an area of around 600 square kilometers, aiming not only to search for oil and gas but also to identify deposits of copper and iron. Under an agreement between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, Uzbek companies will receive priority rights if new oil and gas resources are discovered. This project marks Uzbekistan’s second attempt to explore oil and gas reserves in Afghanistan. Last year, the country launched a similar project in the Tutimaydan area of Faryab.
