Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s representative to the United Nations, told the United Nations Security Council that Afghanistan has become a sanctuary for certain militant groups. He said groups such as Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan and Islamic State are using Afghan territory to organize and launch attacks against Pakistan, describing the activities as a serious threat to Pakistan’s security and regional stability. Ahmad stated that Islamabad has repeatedly raised these concerns with the authorities in Afghanistan and with the international community, warning that the continued presence of such groups could escalate regional tensions and challenge border security. He added that Pakistan has taken measures along its border in response to the threats, including operations aimed at preventing militant infiltration and reducing security risks. Ahmad stressed that regional cooperation and joint efforts to combat terrorism are essential to ensuring stability and security in the region.
