HERAT, Afghanistan: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Afghanistan, said that Women across Afghanistan are entering the workforce to support their families. The UNDP Afghanistan announced on Monday that women entrepreneurs in Herat, with UNDP support, are creating job opportunities and expanding their businesses. The initiative is part of UNDP’s broader effort, backed by the European Union, to help Afghan women achieve economic self-sufficiency. According to UNDP statistics, 88 percent of female-headed households lack access to basic needs, and only 7 percent of women are employed outside the home. In response, the organization focuses on practical, community-based solutions to strengthen family livelihoods and empower women economically.
