KABUL: Armed assailants riding motorcycles launched coordinated attacks on three villages in the Borgu area of Niger State, northern Nigeria, killing around 50 people and abducting several others, according to witnesses and official sources. International media reports said the attackers stormed homes in Tungar Makri, Kunkuso, and Pisa, opening fire on residents during the raids. Local officials said the assailants arrived in large numbers, shooting indiscriminately before fleeing with an unspecified number of villagers. Security forces have reportedly been deployed to the affected areas, while search-and-rescue operations are ongoing. Northern Nigeria has witnessed a surge in violent attacks in recent years, often involving armed groups targeting rural communities for killings, kidnappings, and looting.
