KABUL: The European Commission has announced the allocation of €126 million for Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran in 2026. The amount is part of a €1.9 billion global relief fund aimed at addressing humanitarian crises worldwide. The European Commission noted that the assistance comes at a time when approximately 239 million people globally require urgent aid. Hadja Labib, the Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness, and Crisis Management for the European Commission, committed the World Economic Forum in Davos. The goal is to attract financial resources from the private sector and provide innovative solutions to complement public funding. Labib stated, “The humanitarian system is under unprecedented pressure, and public financing alone will not meet the dimensions of this crisis.” The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) projects that the global displaced population will exceed 136 million by the end of 2026. Additionally, the UN has requested approximately $1.7 billion to address the humanitarian needs in Afghanistan for the year 2026.
