TEHRAN: Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni stated today that approximately one million of the two million illegal Afghan migrants have been expelled from Iran. He claimed that this process has been carried out “with full dignity and respect,” noting that Taliban governors in neighboring provinces have visited Iranian camps and confirmed that the deportations are conducted respectfully. Momeni also asserted that 70% of Afghan migrants left Iran voluntarily. However, many deported individuals have reported mistreatment by officials, harsh conditions in temporary detention centers, and even deaths in camps. Additionally, there have been reports of suspicious killings following the expulsion of family heads. Recently, the murder of a young Afghan woman along with her three children in Tehran, after her husband’s deportation, has sparked widespread reactions.
